Why Choose Culligan?

Winterhaven water quality often faces our share of water filtration and treatment issues:

Surface water, like rivers and snow melt, absorb contaminants that can be harmful for consumption as well as annoying around the home. Most of these contaminants include naturally occurring bio materials and minerals. This means water quality can worsen seasonally when warming temperatures contribute to algal blooms, or heighten water sensitivity to microorganism growth.

Ground water presents its own treatment challenges and filtration issues, so Winterhaven residents with primarily groundwater service may see different water problems than those using water from Winterhaven surface water sources. Most often, these manifest as hard water problems which cause buildup on faucets and fixtures and can be hard on appliances and plumbing.

What Is Winter Haven, Florida’s Water Quality?

Winter Haven’s drinking water comes from 21 deep wells drawing from the Floridan Aquifer. The water undergoes several treatment steps: it is aerated to remove volatile contaminants, chlorinated to disinfect, fluoridated for dental health, and stabilized with orthophosphate to prevent pipe corrosion and mineral buildup.

According to the City of Winter Haven’s 2024 Annual Water Quality Report, the following regulated substances were detected in treated water—but all remained below EPA safety limits:

  • Fluoride
  • Lead and copper from plumbing
  • Disinfection byproducts (TTHMs and HAA5)
  • Radiological contaminants (alpha emitters, radium)
  • Sodium, arsenic, and nitrate
  • Pesticide byproducts like dalapon and 2,4-D

These results reflect strong compliance, but local plumbing conditions and naturally high mineral content can still impact water quality at the tap.

Yes, Winter Haven’s tap water meets all federal and state safety standards, with no MCL violations reported in 2024. However, some residents may still experience issues related to taste, smell, or specific contaminants like:

  • Lead from old service lines
  • Chlorine flavor or odor
  • Byproducts of disinfection (TTHMs up to 76.8 ppb and HAA5 up to 53.1 ppb)

Even compliant levels can pose long-term health concerns or affect household water quality. The best way to ensure your home’s water is safe is to conduct a home water test.

Yes. Although the city’s report doesn’t list a specific hardness number, Winter Haven’s supply comes from the Floridan Aquifer, which is known for producing hard water rich in calcium and magnesium.

Hard water can lead to:

  • Mineral buildup on faucets and fixtures
  • Spotty dishes and glassware
  • Dry skin and dull hair
  • Reduced efficiency in appliances

A Culligan water softener can help reduce these issues and extend the life of your plumbing and appliances.

The 2024 report does not list PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) under its regulated or unregulated contaminants. However, Winter Haven participates in ongoing monitoring under the EPA’s Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR), and PFAS are often detected in trace amounts in Florida groundwater.

Because PFAS are persistent and may not be disclosed until the UCMR 5 results are finalized, homeowners concerned about long-term health risks can have peace of mind with Culligan’s PFAS Filter.

Yes. Fluoride is intentionally added to the Winter Haven water supply to promote dental health. In 2024, the highest level reported was 1.1 ppm, within the EPA limit of 4.0 ppm and in line with CDC recommendations for optimal dental benefits.

If you prefer to reduce fluoride exposure for health or personal reasons, reverse osmosis systems can remove it efficiently.

The City of Winter Haven sources its drinking water from 21 groundwater wells that tap into the Floridan Aquifer, one of the most reliable and mineral-rich aquifers in the southeastern U.S.

After extraction, the water is treated through:

  • Aeration to remove hydrogen sulfide and volatile compounds
  • Chlorination to disinfect
  • Fluoridation for dental protection
  • Orthophosphate addition to reduce pipe corrosion and scaling

Most homes in Winter Haven can benefit from a water softener, especially if you’ve noticed:

  • Soap scum or cloudy dishes
  • Dry skin and brittle hair
  • White crust on faucets or showerheads
  • Reduced appliance performance

Winter Haven’s hard water is a result of its deep aquifer source. A Culligan water softener can help protect your plumbing and provide cleaner, softer water for daily use.

A water filter can improve your home’s water quality by addressing issues such as:

  • Chlorine taste or odor
  • Disinfection byproducts like TTHMs and HAA5
  • Lead from plumbing
  • Pesticide residues (e.g., 2,4-D and dalapon detected in 2024)

Culligan offers both whole-home filtration systems and point-of-use reverse osmosis systems for cleaner, safer drinking water.
